If Boston loses the first round, there should be an investigation.

The mad scramble in the American Conference (AC) for the wild card spot in the 2013 tournament should ensure that Boston enjoys every possible advantage in the five game opening round against the survivor.  Boston should sweep the winner of the Cleveland - Tampa play-in game tomorrow.  See:

The National Conference (NC) wild card competition does not have the added draining of starting pitching as that in the AC, just the normal type from having to win a do-or-die entry game.  St. Louis should have a comfortable edge over the winner of the Pittsburgh - Cincinnati play-in game today.

Maybe the Yankees caught a break by failing to even tie for a play-in game to the regular play-in game.  That double burden all but dooms Tampa.

And so, advantage Boston and St. Louis in round two.  Being the one seed is very important in the two wild card format.
