Team Salary Cap Summary 2003-2013.

Click link to view source data.  New chart above shows the percent of the cap, which increases over time, for the top and bottom spending teams per season.  The gap had decreased slightly but then jumped again with the Dodgers suddenly replacing the Yankees as the biggest spender.  The Yanks were top spenders in all the other years shown.  In 2013 Houston accounted for the extremely low bottom with its inexcusably low payroll under $15 million, which is what Robinson Cano was paid.  Cano will receive $24 million for each of the next ten seasons from Seattle.  The individual minimum allowed in 2013 was just under $500,000, which multiplied by 25 equals about $12.5 million.  It's amazing that Houston's payroll was barely above that.  Obviously, a realistic team minimum must be established that is substantially more.  The Dodgers and Yankees spent respectively: $256 and $246 million.  Nice work Bud Selig.  You should be fired.
