Phil Rizzuto was AL MVP in 1950 and also won the Hickok Belt, awarded to the top professional athlete of the year, and was named Major League Player of the Year by The Sporting News.  Rizzuto was the only MVP in history to lead the league in sacrifice bunts.  Rizzuto was all city.

Joe DiMaggio had his last big season, leading the AL in slugging average, and was all city for the final time edging rising star Duke Snider.

21 year old lefty Whitey Ford made his debut July 1: 9-1, plus Ford won the final WS game.

Johnny Mize went from the Giants to the Yankees late in the 1949 season.  In 1950 Mize hit 25 homers in 274 at bats and his OPS+ was 142.

Yankee attendance was more than double the Giants and almost double the Dodgers, a sign of things to come.

The Yankees swept the Philadelphia Phillies and won their second consecutive World Series.
