Owners should have voted no confidence in Selig, fired him and elected someone younger than 50 to make radical change: get the damn games under TWO hours!

Supposedly Major Baseball League (MBL) commissioner Allan Huber "Bud" Selig notified the 30 team owners on Monday that their planned Thursday meeting in Baltimore would include a vote on Selig's successor.

Thursday after six ballots, the owners elected 55 year old Rob Manfred to succeed 80 year old Selig ... in January 2015.

There had been a lame uprising in support of a 64 year old guy who owns a minority interest in the Red Sox.  That's their idea of radical.

Then several owners indicated that they saw a need to get young people interested in baseball, which means that baseball is on its death bed and it's way too late.  Some stated publically AFTER the election that they generally wanted to speed up the pace of games.

Apparently, they did not want to upset or insult Selig by overtly criticizing his regime.  They should have voted no confidence, fired Selig and elected someone younger than 50 to make radical changes immediately.

Instead of waiting for Manfred to maybe take some lame action in 2015, the owners could have started resuscitation by ordering their general managers to order their field managers to order their players to speed up play.  Also, order the umpires to enforce existing rules and new interpretations and new rules to get the damn games under TWO hours.  That could be in effect NOW, in time to save THIS season from yet another drubbing by the early season NFL games getting better TV ratings than MBL tournament games.
