Home Run Derby 2015: who picked these guys?

The eight participants and their 2015 team and HR:
Albert Pujols LAA 26
Todd Frazier CIN 25
Josh Donaldson TOR 21
Joc Pederson LAD 20 rookie
Manny Machado BAL 19
Anthony Rizzo CHC 16
Prince Fielder TEX 13
Kris Bryant CHC 12 rookie

Good for Albert Pujols for participating.  He's by far the oldest (35) participant and already has Hall of Fame stats.  The HR derby seems to be limited to players on the 2015 All Star rosters.  That's a big mistake, especially since it's the only significant non-game event, which is only a bunch of guys hitting tee shots.  The NBA has slam dunk, three point shooting, skills (dribbling, passing, etc.), plus other stuff.

I understand that established players do not want to participate and the league wants to promote its younger players like Machado, Pederson, Bryant. But maybe some of these guys should have been invited:

Jones is retired and Howard is a shadow of his former self but the other guys can still hit homers.  Prince Fielder is the only recent 50 HR hitter in the 2015 HR Derby.

How about some other active recent HR champs who are not injured: Nelson Cruz, Pedro Alvarez, Paul Goldschmidt, Ryan BraunMatt Kemp, Mark Teixeira?

Here are the top 10 in 2015:
Home Runs
1.Stanton (MIA)27
2.Pujols (LAA)26
3.Frazier (CIN)25
Harper (WSN)25
5.Trout (LAA)24
J.D. Martinez (DET)24
Arenado (COL)24
8.Teixeira (NYY)22
9.Cruz (SEA)21
Donaldson (TOR)21

Stanton is injured and Pujols, Frazier and Donaldson are in the derby.  Teixeira and Cruz have already been mentioned. But what about the others, especially Bryce Harper and Mike Trout?

Finally, let's look at the top ten career active:
Cabrera and Beltran are injured.  The 800 pound gorilla in all this is Alex Rodriguez who was not selected for the All Star team.  Rodriguez was suspended for the entire 2014 season for using performance enhancing drugs (PED).  On the other hand, ...

Is that old black magic (PED) back? Home run leaders way up. Friday, July 3, 2015

No more than half way through 2015 ten players are on pace to hit at least 40 home runs.  In 2014 only one player hit 40: Nelson Cruz.  Stanton is injured but four others have a shot at 50.

Maybe Barry Bonds should be invited.  He could probably still hit meatball pitches out of the park.
