Pitcher performance older than 32.

David Price is scheduled to sign a seven year contract for $217 million tomorrow with the Boston Red Sox.  In 2015 Price was number 5 in ERA+ with 161 (61% above league).  Zach Greinke was number one with 225.

Price was born Aug. 26, 1985, so he will be 30 when the 2016 season starts.  After pitching for the Red Sox for three years (ages 30,31,32), Price has an option to become a free agent again and forgo the final four years of his Red Sox contract.  Let's consider that contract to be for about $30 million per year.

Greinke was born Oct. 31, 1983.  Greinke will be 32 for the entire 2016 regular season.  Greinke may get a six year contract with either the Dodgers, his current team, or the Giants for at least $30 million per year.

How do pitchers perform at ages older than 32?  Yesterday on MLB Network it was shown that older Cy Young award winners in recent years have performed less well, including:

Roy Halladay 2003, 2010
CC Sabathia 2007
Cliff Lee 2008
Tim Lincicum 2008, 2009
Justin Verlander 2011
