J.D. Martinez: #5 in OPS+ 2014-2017. Not a 1-2 year wonder.

For batters with at least 2,000 plate appearances (PA) for the last four years from baseball-reference.com.

Mad Dog Russo on MLB Network repeated something we hear from many: J.D. Martinez has had only two good seasons. No, J.D. Martinez has been really good in each of the last four seasons.

Yankee general manager Brian Cashman, executive of the year over the guy in Houston according to Baseball America, failed to trade for Josh Donaldson (#10 above and 2015 MVP) when Cashman was looking for a third baseman and instead signed Chase Headley about a month after Donaldson was traded from Oakland to Toronto.

Cashman, with no criticism from Yankee fans or media, also passed on Nelson Cruz (#7) who is three years older than J.D. Martinez, who is considered too old by some.

Cashman, with no criticism from Yankee fans or media, also passed on Edwin Encarnacion (#15) one year ago.

So three of the top 15 hitters of the last four years were not properly valued by the executive of year for 2017. That may be happening again with J.D. Martinez, not by the Yankees who acquired Giancarlo Stanton (#3), but by the other 29 teams.
