Hal Steinbrenner lives! Who knew?

What's significant is not what Hal Steinbrenner said but that reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. Hal Steinbrenner lives!  He even speaks.

Joel Sherman had a couple of articles in the New York Post interviewing Yankee owner Hal Steinbrenner. You can read them for yourself and judge whether Hal Steinbrenner has any idea what he's talking about.

‘Pissed off’ Hal Steinbrenner opens up: Red Sox anger, Machado caution

Hal Steinbrenner refers to “the first week in October” often in a 40-minute phone conversation. He uses that term (“first week in October”). Not the Division Series. Not the loss to the Red Sox...

That it was the hated Red Sox who eliminated the Yankees and went on to win a fourth championship in 15 years “certainly pisses me off. I never want a division rival to outdo us.”

At another point, Steinbrenner offers, “I have no love for the Red Sox on the field or in the division.” ...

Every player we talk about, it would be one of my questions. … New York, you will have a tough time if you don’t have the temperament for it or you don’t have the temperament for how [the Yankees] insist it is done.

Hal Steinbrenner: What went wrong for Yankees in playoffs
By Joel Sherman November 1, 2018 | 5:28pm

— On urgency to win a championship: “You have to look at the player development system. We have a number of good years coming. I don’t feel unbelievably pressured that this is our one year and we are done.

— On 2018 overall: “We had good chemistry on the team. We know we let the fans down and I feel very bad about that. We have to sift through what happened in that series [against Boston] and also sift through why the team kept losing to teams we shouldn’t have during the season, especially in our division. We have a lot of thinking to do and we have begun that process.”
