I just noticed the estimated payroll data on the home page of http://www.baseball-reference.com/


I then sorted payroll for each league.

teams over $100M:

7 of 14 (50%) AL - Yanks $197M; Tampa $50M

6 of 16 (37.5%) NL - Phillies $164; San Diego $43M.

Which is preferable for competitive balance?
