That new rule starts in 2020. Already there's speculation that pitchers may fake an injury to facilitate a pitching change and solutions to that are, of course, heavy on the punishment.
How about something creative that borrows from the National Basketball Association (NBA)?
https://official.nba.com/rule-no-9-free-throws-and-penalties/
Section II, a.
1.Exceptions a.:
If the offended player is injured, other than as a result of a flagrant foul or unsportsmanlike conduct, or is ejected from the game and cannot attempt the awarded free throw(s), the opposing coach shall select, from his opponent’s bench, the replacement player.
______________________
So, if a pitcher cannot continue, the opposing manager selects the relief pitcher to replace the injured pitcher.
Cool, huh?
