Babe Ruth's first National League game.

Babe Ruth was released by the Yankees after the 1934 season so that he could join the Boston Braves in the National League. Ruth had been led to believe that this could develop to a management position but that never happened.

The Braves opened at home against the New York Giants.

Carl Hubbell started for the Giants and was the losing pitcher. Ruth had 3 RBI, going 2 for 4. Against Hubbell, Ruth went single, SO, HR.

Hubbell was 32 years old. He won more than 20 games 1933-1937. He was NL MVP in 1933 and 1936. Hubbell gave up the most NL home runs in 1935 and 1940.

Ruth hit seven home runs in 1935, the final three in Pittsburgh on May 25, 1935. Ruth played five more games through May 30: 0 for 13, 5 SO.
