Mantle family in the 1940 U.S. census

Mickey Mantle was first listed in the U.S. census, taken every ten years, in 1940.  Individual census records become available when 72 years have passed.  I'm not making this up.  So 1940 is the most recent census we can search for data on individuals.

Mickey's father was Elvin Charles Mantle, known at Mutt, whose father was Charles.  I found the record below, which indicates that Mutt's father was living with him and available to pitch to young Mickey lefty so that Mick could bat his natural righty.  Mickey would bat lefty against his father.

I'm sure the 1940 census didn't not list Mutt's "gender" as male, since the word "gender" was not misused back then. (Even today, the Women's Equality Act that Governor Cuomo is trying to get passed correctly uses the word "sex" when it means sex.)

Cliff, I did a copy and paste of what was displayed in Screen. Check for yourself.

Column 9 of the image of the 1940 census form: Sex - Male (M), Female (F).

"Women's Equality Act"? What the heck? This is a freakin' baseball blog. Get with it.
