That's a twist on the old 1950s pejorative about the Yankees that a Met fan dug up a few months ago to bug me. I thought: why even bring that up? It made no sense 50-60 years ago. Now the Cutsie Metsies have descended into a place, which makes it applicable to them. Irony abounds.
The Metsies have now dumped lifetime team members Jon Niese and Daniel Murphy. They have no apparent interest in Yoenis Cespedes, their two month rental, who powered them into the tournament. No need to recount the love/hate/love/... melodrama between Metsie fans and their ace pitcher Matt Harvey.
Cold.
Like rooting for U.S. Steel. Ironic, indeed.
