But for some reason Yankee manager Aaron Boone planned this European weekend as a mid season vacation for his starting pitchers except Masahiro Tanaka, who started game one in London yesterday. Game two was supposed to be one of those all relief pitcher jobs that Boone has robotically embraced this season to be like many of his peers.
It didn't make much sense, except that the Yankee starting pitchers have not been consistent.

Uh, oh. Things didn't go as planned. Aaron Boone depleted his bullpen. So, of course, one would reasonably expect Aaron Boone to change his silly plan to go with all relief pitchers in game two in London. But no, Aaron Boone is sticking with what obviously is an untenable position. He didn't even have a suitable relief pitcher to be his "opener". Aaron Boone started Stephen Tarpley. It's Tarpley's first major league start. Here's his entire MLB career:

Instead of starting Sabathia or Happ, who had full rest, Aaron Boone started Tarpley. Instead of starting Paxton on three days rest after he had pitched only 4.33, Aaron Boone started Tarpley.
Aaron Boone could even have started Tanaka, who threw only 37 pitches the day before.
Aaron Boone, should have shown some imagination and flexibility. Is he capable of doing so?
Tarpley pitched the first inning in game two in London: 4 runs, 3 HR.
Those people in London should have demanded a refund when they realized what was happening.
