The Yankees won the World Series in 2000 and in 2009. So, once in the last 25 years, the worst stretch since 1920 when Babe Ruth joined the team.
Brian Cashman has been general manager since February 1998. He inherited a championship team that won the World Series in 1998, 1999 and 2000. But even the 2009 team had the core four, inherited by Cashman: Jeter, Posada, Pettitte and Rivera.
