Oldest hitters of the 531 three homer games.

Last night Alex Rodriguez hit three home runs in Minnesota.  Tomorrow Rodriguez will be 40 years old.  I wondered if Rodriguez was the oldest to hit at least three home runs in a game.  I ran an ad hoc query at baseball-reference.com and found that, including multiples by some hitters, it has occurred 531 times.  Three hitters were 40 and one was 41.  The first 40 year old was Babe Ruth in his final season ... with Boston of the National League in Pittsburgh.

39  5, including Rodriguez
38  5 including Ted Williams twice in 1957
37  6, including Pete Rose

Here are the 46 occurrences for hitters at least 35 years old on the date when they hit at least three homers in a game; none hit four.
