"Major League", the 1989 movie, now playing at Yankee Stadium.

"Major League"

The new owner of the Cleveland Indians puts together a purposely horrible team so they'll lose and she can move the team. But when the plot is uncovered, they start winning just to spite (the owner) her.

We can only hope that the Yankees continue to win despite general manager Brian Cashman throwing in the towel. The Yanks are one game worse than the Mets and play them again tonight at Citi Field. If the Yankees win, both teams will be 54-52. Then the Mets go to Yankee Stadium for two more games.

A reasonable person might expect that a team that is 40-60 might quit but not a team that's 52-52. The Yankee players, of course, did not quit. The owner and general manager quit.

The Mets with a similar record added talent in order to better compete in the final 60 games. The Yankees dumped salary and talent for minor league players, who cannot help this season. If the Yankees keep winning, even Hal Steinbrenner might realize that Cashman must go and fire him before New Year's Eve.
