Mike Trout ignores NBA style tampering by Bryce Harper with new 10 year $360 million contract. For life?

After signing a 13 year $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies Bryce Harper stated publicly that he wanted Mike Trout to also sign with the Phillies when Trout became a free agent after the 2020 season. That type of stuff happens in the National Basketball Association (NBA), sometimes successfully, sometimes not: see Carmelo Anthony, who is home and not playing in the NBA.

Probably to make their headline more spectacular, initial reports yesterday continued to describe the agreement between Mike Trout and his current team, the Angels, as a new contract for $430 million. It appears to be a new 10 year $360 million contract but that somehow got joined to the remaining two years of Trout's current contract for $34 million in 2019 and $34 million in 2020. Even with that it all adds up to $428, not $430 million. Here's what is likely a good comparison for the next 13 years:
Harper 13 years, $330  million
Troup 12 years, $428 million.

Combining Trout's new contract with the remaining two years of his current contract is a reasonable comparison. Just be clear about it.

One implication is that the money the Yankees will not been spending on Bryce Harper and another recent free agent, Manny Machado, cannot now be spent on Trout. Or can it?

I have thought since his 2012 rookie season that Mike Trout is reminiscent of Mickey Mantle and that Trout should play for the Yankees. Could that still happen even now with Trout committed to the Angels for the next 12 years?

The New York football Giants of the National Football League (NFL) signed controversial wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. to a big multi-year contract before the 2018 season, then traded Beckham March 13, 2019 to Cleveland after the Giants went a disappointing 5-11. One school of thought is that the Giants made Beckham more attractive in a trade by having him already signed.

Could that same logic apply to Trout? And if the Angels get into financial difficulty, might the Yankees trade a bag of baseballs and a broken bat to the Angels for Mike Trout ... with the Angels even paying some of Trout's contract?

November 17, 2014 the Marlins signed their own player Giancarlo Stanton, to a 13 year contract $325 million contract that would take Stanton to age 38, same as Trout through his current commitment.

In 2017 Stanton hit 59 home runs and was NL MVP. Before the 2018 season the Marlins traded Stanton to the Yankees ... to save money. The Marlins are paying part of Stanton's contract.

Often injured Toronto shortstop Troy Tulowitzki:
December 11, 2018: Released by the Toronto Blue Jays.
January 4, 2019: Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees.

Toronto will pay $19.45 million of Tulowtzki's $20 million 2019 salary. The Yankees pay the rest, which is the major league minimum.

Mike Trout, an Angel for life? You never know.
