Players' Weekend: stupid names on clown uniforms. What would the great DiMaggio have done?

Argh. Another jackass MLB promotion, along with:
- pink
- camouflage
- everyone wears the same number.

What is Players’ Weekend?
Think of it as baseball’s version of Casual Friday. As part of an agreement between MLB and the MLB Players’ Association, it is a relaxation of the uniform rules so that players can express their individuality through self-selected nicknames and colorful cleats and equipment.
Which games are part of Players’ Weekend?
Every game on the schedule Friday through Sunday...
Is every player wearing a nickname?
No. Some have chosen to wear only their last name, as is their right...
In a new twist this year, teams will wear specially designed (jerseys by Majestic, caps by New Era Cap and socks by Stance), monochromatic uniforms that are either all-white or all-black.

This stupidity supposedly lets the players express themselves, whether they want to or not. They put "names" on the back's of their uniforms, even if their team doesn't use names ordinarily.

Vulgarity will be in Los Angeles this weekend as the Yankees make a very rare appearance in Dodger Stadium. These two old rivals still wear essentially the same classic uniforms that they wore against each other in these intra-city World Series: 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956. The New York Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in all but 1955. And none of the Hall of Fame players had their last name on the back of uniforms to help in identifying them, including:
Pee Wee Reese
Jackie Robinson
Duke Snider
Roy Campanella
Joe DiMaggio
Phil Rizzuto
Yogi Berra
Mickey Mantle
Whitey Ford.

Following a one-year experiment with green-trimmed uniforms (yes, green), the Brooklyn Dodgers overhauled their look for the 1938 season. The club adopted a scripted-version of the team nickname “Dodgers” across the shirt front, underlined by a sweeping curve. The lettering, trim, undershirt, cap, and stockings were all colored with what is now known as “Dodger Blue.” With only minor changes, the uniform has remained the same since the 1938 season.

In 1960, the Chicago White Sox introduced the first uniforms to feature player names on the jersey. The innovation was a success and today every major league club has adopted the practice with one notable exception: the tradition-minded New York Yankees have yet to don a uniform (home or road) adorned with player names.

The Yankees never wear their names, not even on the road. But this weekend they are forced to at least wear their own names. Supposedly when one of them initially selected his own name, he was harrassed/cajoled/encouraged to pick something that would be interpreted as self expression.

Would Joe DiMaggio have been encouraged to expressed himself with:
- Yankee Clipper
- Joltin' Joe
- Joe D.?

I'm thinking that DiMaggio would have told them what to do with their clown outfits and that he would wear his regular Yankee uniform, with only his number 5 on his back. No name. Someone who needs no introduction, should not be introduced.
