Jimmie Foxx hit 70, not 69. Ted Williams 62, not 60. Hank Greenberg had 53, not the 45 shown below.
Here is the top ten list but remember the numbers are low for some players. More correct numbers are below.
Jimmie Foxx | 69 |
Ted Williams | 60 |
Manny Ramirez | 55 |
David Ortiz | 53 |
Carl Yastrzemski | 52 |
Harmon Killebrew | 47 |
Rafael Palmeiro | 47 |
Hank Greenberg | 45 |
Rocky Colavito | 44 |
Al Simmons | 41 |
I find this list surprising, especially considering that more modern teams play fewer games than the 22 seven American League (AL) teams played against the Yankees through 1960 before modern expansion. We'd have to check at bats for each to get a better understanding. And correct the home run totals.
AB%: AB against that team/total AB
HR%: HR against that team/total HR
AB/HR: lower is better
Foxx:
Foxx's AB/HR:
career: 15.2
against Yankees: 15.4
Foxx's home run rate against the Yankees was slightly worse than against all teams, including the Yankees. His being the player with the most home runs against the Yankees seems to be due to the number of AB against them.
Williams:
Williams had his second fewest home runs against the Yankees (and most BB: 309) and a home run rate much higher than that against all teams, including the Yankees. Like Foxx, Williams had more than 1,000 AB against the Yankees.
Ramirez hit home runs against about all 30 teams and he hit the most against the Yankees, one more than against Toronto. So rather than provide full lists for the remaining 8, there's a summary matrix below.
BOLD is best.
RED is worst.
Yank rank is homers hit relative to all teams.
Most: homers hit against a team.
AB%: AB against that team/total AB
HR%: HR against that team/total HR
AB/HR: lower is better
HR%: HR against that team/total HR
AB/HR: lower is better
