Cuban Missile Crisis: Cashman giving Chapman $86 million. Monday, August 14, 2017

Aroldis Chapman:
Nicknames: Cuban Missile or The Missile ...

May opt out of contract following 2019 season...

$17 million per year for each of five years for a guy who has thrown as many as 70 innings only once, in 2012...

Max Scherzer won the NL Cy Young award in 2016 and is likely to repeat in 2017. That's three Cy Young awards for starting pitchers Cashman could have gotten but didn't. Didn't even try. Imagine that.

2019 ALCS Houston Astros over New York Yankees (4-2)

Saturday, October 19, 2019 game 6
Astros 6, Yankees 4

Yankee HR: DJ LeMahieu (3, off Roberto Osuna, 9th inn, 1 on, 1 out to Deep RF Line).

Astro HR: Jose Altuve (5, off Aroldis Chapman, 9th inn, 1 on, 2 outs to Deep LF-CF)

The Yankees would have had no one left for game 7. Even if Yankee closer Aroldis Chapman ($17 million a year for 5 years) had not matched the Astros closer Roberto Osuna by allowing a two run home run in the 9th inning, the game would have gone into extra innings, further depleting the Yankees supposed strength. And had the Yankees won game six, here is a reasonable best case scenario of what might happen in game 7:

Astros starter Gerrit Cole: 7 innings, 2 runs
Yankees starter Luis Severino: 5 innings, 2 runs

What Yankee fan would not sign up for that?

Brian Cashman needs a performance review. Monday, October 21, 2019

Cashman could have signed Washington ace starting pitcher Max Scherzer when Scherzer became a free agent after the 2014 season. In his five years with Washington: 1,050 innings, ERA+ 156...

Cashman spent this on his bullpen for these two free agents:
Aroldis Chapman: $17 million per year 2017-2021. Innings so far: 50, 51, 57.
Zack Britton: $13 million per year 2019-2021. 61 innings in 2019.

That's 118 innings combined in 2019 for Chapman and Britton for combined salary $30 million. That's about 8% of Yankee innings. For $30 million. And Chapman blew the final elimination game in Houston two days ago.

Duh? Really, except for Yankee general manager Brian Cashman and his media sycophants, who are abandoning him now, who didn't know that six innings are more important than three innings? ...

Say what? The Yankees might escape the final two years of that ridiculous five year contract that Cashman gave to Aroldis Chapman? Yippie!
