In 1919 in his final season with the Boston Red Sox Babe Ruth set a new record for home runs in a season. Here are the 1919 AL leaders:
Home Runs
1.Ruth • BOS29
2.Baker • NYY10
Walker • PHA10
Sisler • SLB10
5.Smith • CLE9
6.Burns • PHA8
Heilmann • DET8
8.Felsch • CHW7
Lewis • NYY7
Pipp • NYY7
Jackson • CHW7
Peckinpaugh • NYY7

Ruth's 29 home runs in 1919 are only five fewer than Wally Pipp's Yankees career record of 34. AL home run leaders in 1920:
Home Runs
1.Ruth • NYY54
2.Sisler • SLB19
3.Walker • PHA17
4.Felsch • CHW14
5.Jackson • CHW12
Smith • CLE12
7.Ward • NYY11
Pipp • NYY11
Meusel • NYY11
Veach • DET11

Pipp's 11 would increase his Yankee career number from 34 to 45. Obviously, Ruth's 54 in 1920 would break both Pipp Yankee home records for a season and career.
