Home Run location for the 30 players with at least 493 homers.

From an email message sent last night (will add a reply when/if I get one):

subject: Jim Thome Career Home Runs | Baseball-Reference.com

About three years ago I scraped all the home runs from the Home Run Log for players with at least 493 career home runs. Recently, I've been getting counts of the location of their home runs.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/event_hr.fcgi?id=thomeji01&t=b

But the total I got for Thome for center field was 75. I have 40 HR for Thome with no location in the Play Description or in the Notes. You have 115 HR for Thome to Center. That's the discrepancy of 40. I just looked on your website at the Play Description for some of the 40 HR with no location. Your website does not show it either. So my data from a few years ago may match what you still have. A few examples:
Query2

Kevin TapaniTuesday, July 21, 19924Home Run (Fly Ball); Thome Scores
Cris CarpenterWednesday, September 15, 19938Home Run (Line Drive)

Steve SparksTuesday, May 23, 19952Home Run (Fly Ball)
Alex FernandezTuesday, May 30, 19955Home Run (Fly Ball)

Where did you get your number 115 for CF? I'm guessing that you have other such discrepancies.

Why don't you do what I did: make a separate field and put the location in there:
LF
LF-CF
CF
CF-RF
RF

Also, your info may not be accurate. See Roger Maris #61:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPKkRCR61ds

Your Home Run Log describes it: Home Run (Deep RF Line)

It seems to be left of the 344 sign, so not down the line.

This is a home run that many people have seen on youtube. It was not hit down the line.

Final point: Mike Schmidt has location for fewer than half his 548 HR:

I cannot vouch for whether the location (direction) of the home runs is correct but I think that the numbers below accurately represent the available data in baseball-reference.com, which now uses stathead.com for its ad hoc query function. Try the event finder there for the type of data below.

The following tables were derived from data which was at baseball-reference.com a few years ago. Pujols has been updated manually through 2021 and Cabrera added. I'm guessing that the percentages are accurate.
