300 HR:

In 2023 13 of 30 teams hit at least 200 Home Runs.

First ten times:

The 1947 Giants were led by Johnny Mize who hit 51 HR with only 42 SO. They broke the record of 182 by the 1936 Yankees led by Lou Gehrig hitting 49 for the second time. 1956 Reds also hit 221 HR in fewer AB than the Giants.

The schedule increased from 154 games to 162:

AL in 1961

NL in 1962.

1956Reds2215,29123.94
1961Yankee2405,55923.16

AB/HR: lower is better.

The 1961 Yankees broke the record of 221 in 1961 with 240 HR led by Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle with 61 and 54. They remain the only teammates to hit at least 50 HR in the same season. Maris, of course, broke the season record of Babe Ruth who hit 60 HR in 1927. In 1973 the American League (AL) introduced the Designated Hitter rule. Despite that, the 1961 Yankee record stood 35 years when three AL teams broke it:

55 of the 235 (23%) seasons of 200 HR were through 1999. 2023 Atlanta tied the record of 307 by 2019 Minnesota. In 2019 21 of 30 teams hit at least 200 HR (70%).

Best record: 1998 Yankees: 114-48  .704

Worst record (44 of 235 (19%) under .500): 2019 Baltimore: 54-108  .333; pitchers allowed 305 HR the most ever by far. Next most: 270 by Colorado pitchers, also in 2019.

152 pitching staffs allowed at least 200 HR:
