Yankee general manager Brian Cashman is 1 for 23, worst in Yankee history.

Brian Cashman was promoted from clerk to general manager (GM) of the New York Yankees in February 1998 because GM and former player Bob Watson quit. Cashman was really still a clerk while George Steinbrenner (died July 13, 2010) was still running the Yankees as George made all major decisions and Cashman handled the paperwork.

The Yankees won the World Series in 1998, 1999 and 2000. What credit should Brian Cashman get: none, none, none a little more than none. If you give Brian Cashman credit for the work of his predecessors then former Yankee GM Roy Hamey should get credit for pennants in 1961, 1962, 1963 (3 for 3) ... and leaving office.

Here's what set me off today:

How a no-name Yankees pitcher caused the final crack in Brian Cashman and Joe Torre’s relationship

... the new book, “The Yankee Way: The Untold Inside Story of the Brian Cashman Era,” by Andy Martino that comes out on Tuesday.

Read it for yourself. My take:

Contrary to what Colter Bean (Yankee pitcher 2005-2007, 7 innings) concludes, the Yankees haven't made the World Series since 2009. That's 14 years, the longest streak since 1920 when Babe Ruth joined the team. 2001-2023 in the World Series only in 2009, which they won, largely with the Core Four (Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera) whom Cashman inherited. That's once in 23 years, the longest period in Yankees history. This despite the Yankees spending the most each season in the AL. I think that's correct.

Cashman knew more about pitching than Ron Guidry and Joe Torre? How's that been working?

The team has more holes to fill in 2024 than any time in Cashman's tenure. And he added that immature clown from the Marlins who dresses like he's 14. Is there any dress code anymore? I was ticked off when Brett Gardner occasionally wore white shoes. Now ... Interviews wearing hat backwards or sideways. Multiple colored belt, shoes, fielding glove. There's a reason it's called a uniform. I think this contributes to all the mistakes during games. There's a general lack of discipline.

Brian Cashman is 1 for 23, worst in Yankee history. Zero for the last 14 and counting.

I've been asking for years. Does Brian Cashman ever get a performance review?

Geez.
