New idea.
Random Batters (RB):
Each team gets three per 9 innings. Extra innings: one per three innings.
Any player on the team can be used. The same player can be used for all three occurrences.
It does not change the status of the batter being replaced.
It does not change the status of the batter being used randomly.
Cool, uh? The managers might actually have to do some thinking.
Like a couple of my other rule changes, it reduces the straight jacket of nine batters in rigid rotation:
Start each inning with the top of the order, which makes as much sense as what they've been doing since the Civil War (look it up).
Six player batting order. That's the fewest you could have without the player coming up with himself on base. There would be three Designated Fielders (DF).
Fix walk rule: option to pinch run and batter gets new Plate Appearance. Monday, August 12, 2024
Historical stuff below but here's the solution, which should have been implemented a century ago. Better late than never...
