Let's put the two lists together. Here is the career list of the top 20 with their season highs at least 185 from that list.

Obviously the leading candidates are Trout, McGwire, Pujols, Robinson.

Trout has the advantage of still being active. Even though he's been breaking down physically he does not have a bunch of down seasons at the end as Pujols does, which brings down the career OPS+ of Pujols.

McGwire is probably the biggest surprise candidate because of his home runs and walks (Bases on Balls). It suggests the question: is walking hitting?

Finally, Judge in 2024 had the highest OPS+ of any AL/NL righty since 1903. Judge also has the fourth highest since 1950. However, Judge had his first full season at age 25 and even Mike Trout has about 2,200 more PA. Judge has only four seasons with at least 500 PA plus another with 498. In his last two full seasons Judge had hit 120 home runs: 62 and 58.

Against lefty pitching, best batters since 1950. Sunday, March 30, 2025
