After 113 games, should the Yankees change shortstop?

The Yankees may bring up George Lombard, Jr. He has never played a MLB game. His primary position is shortstop.

The Yankees currently have two shortstop:

Jose Caballero: 344 PA, WAR 2.0 oWAR 1.0, dWAR 1.3 OPS+ 90

Anthony Volpe: 194 PA, WAR 1.1, oWAR 0.7, dWAR 0.7, OPS+ 82

Volpe played his first game this season May 13. Yankee game 44. He had been injured.

Remember, Wins Above Replacement (WAR) is a total, so the more you play, the higher it probably will be.

Other MLB SS in 2026:

For single seasons, in 2026, At least 300 Plate Appearances, Played at least 75% of games at SS, in the regular season, requiring Offensive WAR (oWAR) >= 0 and Adjusted OPS+ >= 0 and Wins Above Replacement (WAR) >= 0 and Defensive WAR (dWAR) >= -9, sorted by descending Wins Above Replacement (WAR).

Caballero does not appear because he did not play 75% of his games at SS: started 60 games at SS.

Volpe did not have 300 PA.

It's unrealistic to expect George Lombard to come up during a pennant race and displace two veteran SS. How many non pitchers have done something like that?
