Recently Derek Jeter set the Yankee record for career strike outs. Jeter now has 1,714. He broke the record of 1,710 long held by Mickey Mantle.
Since I have been watching recent games by recording and fast forwarding between pitches I may have missed it but I did not notice the Yankee announcers on the YES network mention this. Did they? If not, why not?

Nobody mentioned it because nobody cares. You play enough you'll set the dubious records, and Jeter at the time he broke Mantle's record had over 2,000 more at-bats than The Mick when his career came to an end. That's about three full seasons of baseball. Jeter will add to his record as he continues to climb the all-time hits ladder, and it won't matter a bit.
That same stuff applied to Jeter setting the Yankee record for hits. Jeter needed many more At Bats. My point, obviously, was that Yankee management only wants to publicize positive records and Yankee announcers go along. It's too bad fans and media are no more interested in a balanced perspective. I care about that.
