The New York Yankees spent 48% more than the second biggest spender the Boston Red Sox and 348% more than the lowest spender Tampa.  The Yankee minimum was more than the maximum of  very other team except Boston, Dodgers and Philadelphia.  During the study period of when the soft cap has been in effect, 2003-2013, Boston has won three championships, the Yankees one.  St. Louis (11) and San Francisco (9) have each won two.

Florida (now Miami) (29) beat the Yankees in 2003.  Tampa lost the 2008 finals.

Twelve of the 30 teams spent over one billion dollars in the eleven years.  The Yankees $2.2 billion.
