Yankees v. Mets

Tonight is the start of a three game series at Yankee Stadium.  April intracity games are probably bequeathed by former commissioner for life Allan Huber "Bud" Selig, the gift that keeps on giving.

Pre-season:

New York teams combined: Mets/Yankees split starting nine. Tuesday, February 3, 2015

I don't usually write about current games other than if there is a larger topic but this has my interest.

David Wright would take 3B but he is injured. 1B is closer than I had expected. Duda has a lot of buzz but when I compared his offense to that of Mark Teixeira it was surprisingly competetive. Duda has only one homer? One? I don't pay much attention to the Mets but I hear his name mentioned so I thought he must be homering. Tex has 5 HR and he's an excellent fielder.

Neither team is loaded. SS is downright weak. 2B is about a push. RF is an embarrassing push. LF batting is close but Gardner can really run the bases and is a CF in LF; he can go get them. McCann and Ellsbury, 2014 free agent signings, are paid way too much for way too long but they are clearly better than their Met counterparts.

Yanks have 21 homers ... and A-Rod. I'd love to see him at least tie Willie Mays against the Mets on the all time career home run list. Make both the Mets fans and Steinbrenner Kids squirm. How often would that happen?

Masahiro Tanaka pitched yesterday so he is not a factor in this series. Probable starters:

Jacob deGrom v. Michael Pineda

Matt Harvey v. CC Sabathia

Jon Neise v. Nathan Eovaldi - push

All three could be close. Sabathia is coming off a solid start and Harvey has mostly been a big strike out guy but with a 3.50 ERA. The Yankee bullpen is much better.

I don't see too much for either team to brag about but those bragging rights are up for grabs.
