With two out in the bottom of the 9th, tie game, and leadoff hitter George Springer batting, Hall of Fame pitcher and announcer John Smoltz says the batters are looking for a fastball to end the game. Springer walks with two out.
Two fastballs to Jose Altuve. 2-0. Chapman then throws 87 MPH slider, inside corner. Strike call. Why didn't Springer steal if they knew the pitches? Then with Springer on second a single wins the game ... and pennant.
84 MPH up and away hit for home run. Two slow pitches in a row, the second not so good. Altuve may have been informed but it still looked like a bad pitch.
I also looked at an amateur video, which stayed on Altuve ... and Sanchez. FOX TV wanders to fans, etc. however the video below shows Sanchez was looking into the Yankee dugout for each pitch to Altuve.
Watch Yankee manager Aaron Boone and pitching coach Larry Rothschild, who appears to be to the right of Boone. Is this why Rothschild was fired? They may be alternating giving the sign to Sanchez, who seems to be looking 90 degrees to his left at Boone. No TV needed to see that. Boone conspicuously changes from one foot to the other and lowers his head. Was that the sign to Sanchez? Beats me but Sanchez is clearly getting the sign from the Yankee dugout and then passing it along to Chapman. The Astros and many people at the game could see this without any tech equipment. The Astros would have to quickly interpret or most likely already interpreted the Yankee signs, which are publicly visible. How did the Astros convey the information to Altuve, if they did?
Commissioner Manfred the A-Rod Slayer should ask the Yankees who gave the signs to Sanchez. Then all the commissioner needs to determine is how Altuve received. There was speculation today that Astros batters wore a sensor, which could deliver an impulse. It's getting increasingly creepy, outlandish, ...
