Clemens pitched well in the first of these five games, way back in 1986 with the Boston Red Sox when Clemens was AL MVP and Cy Young winner: 24-4 (.857), 2.48 ERA, 169 ERA+, 254 Innings. Clemens turned 24 August 4, 1986. Red Sox lost the 1986 World Series to the Mets ... in 7 games.

Fifteen years later at age 39 in 2001 Clemens was 20-3 (.870), 220 Innings. Clemens pitched two ultimate deciding games in 2001 for the Yankees:
ALDS: terrible; the Yankees won in spite of Clemens.
WS: Clemens pitched very well but Mariano Rivera had the biggest blown save in MLB history in the 9th inning of game 7 and also lost the game.

Two years later at age 41 Clemens failed against Boston but the Yankees bailed him out, winning the 2003 pennant in 11 innings on the dramatic walk off home run by Aaron Boone, who now manages the Yankees. Rivera pitched innings 9,10,11 and saved the game. Clemens was 17-9, 211 Innings in 2003.

Finally at age 42 and now pitching for Houston, Clemens failed yet again but this time his team could not bail him out. The Astros lost the 2004 NL pennant to the St. Louis Cardinals who ironically were swept in four games in the 2004 World Series to the original team of Roger Clemens: the Boston Red Sox who won the WS for the first time since their pitching hero was Babe Ruth (2-0 v. Cubs) back in 1918, year of the "Spanish flu" pandemic. Clemens in 2004: 18-4 (.818), 214 Innings.
