Ruth and Maris home runs in games 152-163 clearly shown. Through 154: Ruth 60, Maris 58.

Babe Ruth v. Roger Maris

Maybe this will clarify it. Part of the confusion is that both the 1927 and 1961 Yankees played an early season tie game. So, their regular season schedules of 154 and 162 respectively wound up with these number of games: 155 and 163.

This table should do the trick:

Ruth hit two home runs in team game 153.

Ruth hit number 60 in game 154.

Maris hit number 59 in game 155.

Maris hit number 60 in game 159.

Maris hit number 61 in game 163.

Links: the year is to the list of schedule and results; then there are links to games:

1961: 155    159    163

So, if you still insist that Maris broke the home run record of the previous 154 game schedule, good luck.

Aaron Judge needs to pass 60 Home Runs in 154 games and pass a PED test. Babe Ruth is the only non PED user to hit 60 Home Runs in 154 games. Saturday, September 10, 2022

Roger Maris hit #61 in team game 163, not 162. Only 60 in first 162 games. Wednesday, September 7, 2022

The case against Roger Maris 61 Home Runs in 1961: expansion (25% more teams) and EIGHT (5.2%) more games. Wednesday, August 31, 2022
