After posting this yesterday I wondered. Where are the Brooklyn Dodgers?

Several Yankees from the 1950s were in the tables: Mantle, Berra, Howard, Skowron, McDougald, Bauer, Rizzuto. Plus, Maris in the 1960s. But who were they playing in 7 game World Series?

Brooklyn Dodgers 1947, 1952, 1955, 1956
Milwaukee Braves 1957, 1958.
Pittsburgh Pirates 1960
San Francisco Giants 1962
St. Louis Cardinals 1964

My original search criteria was a low 10 Plate Appearances (PA). The Brooklyn Dodgers had five Hall of Fame players for most of 1947-1956.

Jackie Robinson 1947-1956, MVP 1949
Roy Campanella 1948-1957, MVP 1951, 1953, 1955
Duke Snider 1947-1964; Brooklyn through 1957
Gil Hodges
1947-1963; Brooklyn through 1957
Pee Wee Reese 1940-1942, 1946-1958,
Brooklyn through 1957

I used the browser Find function on yesterday's post and searched for each of their last names in the tables. ZERO. It was a no-hitter. I then tried the venerable:

Carl Furillo 1946-1960, Brooklyn through 1957

Not found.

1947 7 game World Series AB:
Jackie Robinson 27
Pee Wee Reese 23
Carl Furillo 17
Gil Hodges 1
All played in game 7. Neither Snider nor Campanella (came up in 1948) played in the 1947 WS.

But they all would have played in 7 game WS 1952, 1955, 1956. I was looking for only 10 PA ... in three game sevens. Their OPS must have been lower than the .800 I was also looking for. Let's check using the cool new functions in stathead.com.

Wow. Campanella is the only one who had even a decent OPS. Zero home runs. Snider hit four homers in 1955 but none in game 7. Wow. No wonder they lost all but 1955 ... when Mantle had only 10 PA total in the seven games.

Note: Robinson did not play in 1955 game 7 (Oct. 4, 1955), the only World Series that Brooklyn won: 1-8; 1-6 against the Yankees. He was benched against Yankee lefty Tommy Byrne because he wasn't hitting: OPS .568.

For perspective, lets' look at the two big boppers on the Milwaukee Braves, neither of whom appeared in yesterday's post either.

That's quite a contrast. The Braves Hall of Fame duo didn't show up yesterday because each had 9 PA, not 10. But both have good numbers.

Game 7 is limiting but I chose it because that was the question raised by stathead.com, which inspired my research yesterday.

Several years ago I manually (before stathead.com existed) found the 14 World Series elimination games for Mickey Mantle. I redid that with the stathead.com data.
