This afternoon in Miami Yankee rookie Anthony Volpe hit home run number 16. All 16 have been hit as a shortstop.

In 1962 Tom Tresh hit 20 rookie home runs but only the first 15 were as the Yankee shortstop. Tresh was filling in for Tony Kubek who had been called to active military duty during the off season. Tresh won the job in spring training. But when Kubek returned to the Yankees in August 1962 Tresh soon relinquished shortstop to Kubek and moved to left field Friday, August 17, 1962 where Tresh hit five more home runs for a total of 20. Tresh did not play shortstop again in 1962.

Unfortunately, today's home run by Volpe was in a devastating 8-7 loss in which the Yankees blew a four run lead in the 9th inning. Heads should roll.

3 Yankees = 40% of payroll in 2023. Does Hal Steinbrenner even know? Saturday, August 12, 2023

No room to maneuver.

General Manager Brian Cashman needs a serious performance review. It's doubtful that owner Hal Steinbrenner has ever given Cashman any kind of evaluation. Hal Steinbrenner probably never will. Hal is in way over his head, with no business background and even less initiative. Not a chip off the old block.
