Payroll/Wins: Braves & Yankees. Yanks pay 96% more per win in 2023.

The Atlanta Braves just swept all three games against the New York Yankees in Atlanta: 11-3, 5-0, 2-0. In their previous game in Miami, the Yankees blew a four run lead in the 9th inning and lost 8-7.

The Braves have the most wins in MLB. The Yankees are in last place in their division.

Braves: 78 wins, 42 losses (.650)

Yankees: 60 wins, 61 losses (.496)

Estimated team payrolls:

Yankees: $270 million  #1 in MLB

Braves: $181 million  #12 in MLB

Yankee payroll is about 50% more than the Braves. Payroll per win:

Yankees: $270,000,000/60=$4,500,000  $4.5 million

Braves: $181,000,000/78=$2,320,513 $2.3 million

The Yankees payroll: (4.5-2.3)/2.3=96% more than the Braves.

Among Braves, Matt Olson gets paid the most: $21 million; then $22M through 2029 (age 35); Olson will be tied by Austin Riley in 2025 and they will be the highest paid Braves through 2029 as things now stand.

Five Yankees get paid more than Olson in 2023:

Aaron Judge: $40,000,000  through 2031 (age 39)

Gerrit Cole: $36,000,000  through 2028 (age 37)

Giancarlo Stanton: $32,000,000  through 2025 (age 35); then $29M, $25M, $10M buyout.

Carlos Rodon: $23,000,000; then $28M through 2028 (age 35)

Josh Donaldson: $22 million; $8M buyout in 2024 (age 38)
