The only other team to hit at least 100 before 1903, when both the American League (AL) and National League (NL) had the same rules, were the 1894 Boston Beaneaters, now the Braves: 103 in 133 (83-49-1) games. Hugh Duffy led with 18 HR. The old Baltimore Orioles had the best NL record in 1894.
The first team to hit at least 100 HR in the modern era were the 1920 New York Yankees: 115 in 154 (95-59) games led by Babe Ruth with 54. Ruth out homered every other AL team, which means that the rest of the Yankees had more HR than Ruth: 61. Cleveland won the AL pennant in 1920.
