8 in Cleveland (League Park II), 6 in Yankee Stadium.

The Cleveland Indians used League Park II 1910-1946; capacity 21,000 expanded to 22,500 in 1939.

https://www.ballparksofbaseball.com/ballparks/league-park/

League Park’s playing field was shaped like a rectangle due to the configuration of the streets surrounding the ballpark. This made the right field fence very short at 290 ft. and creating a 40 feet high wall... By the late 1920s a new stadium was being built along the lakefront in Cleveland. The Indians decided to move to this new stadium, Cleveland Municipal Stadium on July 31, 1932. The team continued to play full time at Cleveland Municipal Stadium until the end of the 1933 season. However beginning in 1934, the Indians began playing at League Park on weekdays and on holidays until 1947. The team finally moved out of League Park because the ballpark never had lights.

OK, right field was short but high. But why did Gehrig set the record and why in 1936? Why not Babe Ruth? Career home runs sorted by park for both Ruth and Gehrig:

League Park II is in the middle for both Ruth and Gehrig, who hit 8 of his 33 there in 1936. Plus, Gehrig still had to hit 6 home runs in Yankee Stadium in 1936 to reach 14 for the season against Cleveland. Gehrig's career home run splits:

GehrigABHRAB/HR
Yankee Stadium3,86125115.38
Road4,14024217.11

Gehrig was more proficient at hitting home runs in Yankee Stadium than on the road but it's not a huge difference.

All of Lou Gehrig's 1936 home runs in Cleveland were hit on weekdays. A check of the specific games confirms that all were hit in League Park II. Links are in the table above.

In his 1932 rookie season Allen had been a starting pitcher on the previous Yankee team to win the World Series; Allen started game four but was knocked out in the first inning; the Yankees came back to win 13-6 and sweep the Cubs. The Yankees would win four consecutive World Series without Allen: 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939. Allen would pitch three games in relief in the 1941 World Series for the Brooklyn Dodgers who lost to the Yankees.

So why did Lou Gehrig hit a record number of home runs against Cleveland in 1936?
