Both Ewing and Connor are in the Hall of Fame. Roger Conner went on to hit a record 138 career home runs, 76 with the Giants. Babe Ruth broke that career record in his second season with the Yankees, 1921. In 1920 Ruth broke both season and career Yankee records for home runs. Connor never led the league in home runs.
Buck Ewing played mostly catcher and mostly for the Giants. 1883 is the only season in which he had double figures in home runs and that's the only year he led the league.
This is the first in a series of posts which will show the New York home runs leaders. Upcoming: 1890-1902 Giants v. Dodgers.
