Stathead problem with number of base runners extends to streaks: missing Harvey Haddix 36 consecutive batters retired.

Baseball Reference via Stathead: imperfect list of perfect games. Thursday, November 19, 2020

I wanted the detailed stats of perfect games, not just a list, such as that in Baseball Almanac:

https://www.baseball-almanac.com/pitching/piperf.shtml

We'll use that as reference...

It appears that at least for games without play by play, Stathead did not consider reaching base on an error when figuring the number of Base Runners (BR).

As mentioned previously, an error does not necessarily mean that a batter reached base.

Perfect in relief: at least 7 innings. Stathead gives incorrect result. Friday, November 20, 2020

The Ernie Shore game is famous. Babe Ruth started and walked the first batter and was ejected for arguing. Shore relieved, picked off Ruth's runner and retired 26 in a row. No play by play...

(Jim) Scott allowed a run yet is included by Stathead as having allowed zero base runners (BR). No play by play.

Retiring batters streak:

If it's a streak, where are Harvey Haddix and Pedro Martinez?

As far as I know Harvey Haddix is the only pitcher to retire more than 27 consecutive batters in a game:
Tuesday, May 26, 1959
Start Time: 8:00 p.m. Local
Attendance: 19,194
Venue: County Stadium
Game Duration: 2:54

Pirates starter Harvey Haddix did not allow a base runner through 12 innings. That's 36 consecutive batters retired.

Pedro Martinez pitched 9 perfect innings in another scoreless tie Saturday, June 3, 1995 through 9 innings but allowed a double to the first batter in the bottom of the 10th and was removed. At least Martinez was the winning pitcher as his team had finally scored a run in the top of the 10th. Haddix Pirates never scored in his game, which he lost.

Results of a Stathead streak finder below, regular season only, so Don Larsen's 1956 World Series perfect game for the Yankees against the Brooklyn Dodgers is not included.

Neither Harvey Haddix nor Pedro Martinez are included. Some are included but do not belong: Mathewson, Rucker, Scott. Note that Ernie Shore is the only relief pitcher included and his streak of 26 is valid.
