The Yankees went to Fenway Park in Boston September 24, 2021 two games behind the Red Sox for the top wild card seed in the 2021 tournament. Since the Red Sox had already clinched the season series against the Yankees, which is the tie breaker for the top wild card seed, the Yankees needed to sweep all three games from the Red Sox. They did, in large part because of the hitting of Giancarlo Stanton.
The sweep was reminiscent of Red Sox sweeps past:
Joe DiMaggio in his first three 1949 games (June 28, 29, 30) wrecks Red Sox in Fenway Park SWEEP. Thursday, August 2, 2018
It's the stuff of legends. After missing the Yankees first 65 games in 1949 with bone spurs in his heel, the Great DiMaggio (Hemingway reference) wakes up one morning and realizes: "the pain in the heel is gone". He accompanies the team to Boston to play for the first time that season. Ironically, the Yankees are in first place without DiMaggio.

Impressive, right? Three home runs and ten RBI. Hold that thought.
The Yankee TV crew made Stanton's performance the subject in the next game's trivia question. The answer showed that they were oblivious to the 1949 DiMaggio series in Boston. Did MLB get its information from the ignorant Yankee people? ...
Breaking down Stanton's ridiculous stretch

... Stanton belt three homers and collect 10 RBIs in a three-game series at Fenway Park this past weekend. Stanton joined Babe Ruth (1927), Lou Gehrig (1931) and Mickey Mantle (1954) as the only Yanks to collect three homers and 10 RBIs over any three-game span against the Red Sox -- a veritable Mount Yankmore.

But what of the great DiMaggio?
Joe DiMaggio: 1949
While these were team games 66, 67, 68, they were the first three played by DiMaggio in 1949. See the post above. And the series is in June, not September. But the reason that DiMaggio is omitted in the MLB article is that he had ONLY nine RBI.
OK, so what about the performances cited for Ruth, Gehrig and Mantle, the other three of the great Yankee foursome? Remember the performance must be "three homers and 10 RBIs over any three-game span against the Red Sox".
"any three-game span"
Babe Ruth: 1927
Note there were two doubleheaders. Inform Ohtani!
The Babe played in FIVE consecutive games in Fenway Park in September 1927. But only the final three-game span is considered. And the Yankees lost two of the five, including the middle of the three-game span that is indirectly cited. But in those three games the Babe did hit five home runs and had eleven RBI.
In the fifth game Ruth hit two homers and led teammate Gehrig in the great 1927 home run race 49-45. They finished 60-47. Team records after the 9/7/1927 game:
Yankees 93-40
Red Sox 42-89
Lou Gehrig: 1931 (This really takes the cake.)
Look closely to find "any three-game span". The first is in Boston, followed by games in Yankee Stadium against Washington, which was in the American League (AL) back then, and then three games against the Red Sox in New York, of which only the first two are included in the "any three-game span". Got it? Yanks swept all four. Using those games Gehrig hit three home runs with eleven RBI. After these games Gehrig had 40 home runs; Ruth would hit #38 the next day; Gehrig and Ruth would tie for the AL lead with 46 home runs. Team records after the 9/1/1931 doubleheader:
Yankees 75-53
Red Sox 49-77
Mickey Mantle: 1954
Hey, three consecutive games in one city but not in Fenway Park Boston. Yanks lost games one and three. The Mick hit three home runs with ten RBI. After these games Mantle had six home runs. Team records after the 5/23/1954 game:
Yankees 20-13
Red Sox 9-18
*** The End ***
