Juan Soto 2 games over .500 record with San Diego matches 2023 Yankees.

Maybe that's why Yankee general manager Brian Cashman is relieving the San Diego Padres of $38,000,000 in 2024 payroll:

$33,000,000 for Juan Soto + $5,000,000 for CF

Trent Grisham

Position: Centerfielder

Bats: Left  •  Throws: Left

5-11224lb (180cm, 101kg)

Team: San Diego Padres (majors)

Born: November 11996 (Age: 27-036d) in Burleson, TX us

Grisham was paid $3,175,000 in 2023 and despite having absolutely terrible hitting numbers in 2022 and 2023 and inexplicably high Plate Appearances (524 and 555) is expected to be paid $5,000,000 in 2024. Oh, Grisham is supposed to be a good fielder. Maybe as good as Estevan Florial whom the Yankees have in their farm system.

Nobody overpays like Brian Cashman. Who could forget Texas regretting the huge contract on Alex Rodriguez it was trying to dump when Cashman came to the rescue ... of Texas:

February 16, 2004: Traded by the Texas Rangers with cash to the New York Yankees for a player to be named later and Alfonso Soriano. The New York Yankees sent Joaquin Arias (April 23, 2004) to the Texas Rangers to complete the trade.

Texas would have taken a broken bat, which was all that Cashman should have offered for Soto, but Cashman sent the Yankees starting second baseman Alfonso Soriano to Texas for A-Rod and his huge multi year contract. In his last two seasons with the Yankees Soriano hit 39 and 38 home runs and stole 41 and 35 bases. 41 led AL. In 2006 with Washington Soriano set the franchise record with 46 home runs:

Home Runs
1.Alfonso Soriano • 200646
2.Vladimir Guerrero • 200044
3.Vladimir Guerrero • 199942
Bryce Harper • 201542

Nobody overpays like Brian Cashman. And he never learns. Never.

Plus, the Yankees are sending players, mostly pitchers, to San Diego.

Brian Cashman must think that Juan Soto will fit right into the 2023 Yankees record of 82-80. That was also the record of San Diego in 2023 with Soto for the entire season. His teammates under performed ... a lot. Was Soto toxic?

Juan Soto would be 1 of 9 in a weak Yankee lineup. Worth $33,000,000 for one year ... and prospects? Wednesday, December 6, 2023

Why rent Juan Soto for 2024? Saturday, November 25, 2023

With Soto for the final 56 games of 2022, SD played about .500 ball. But SD did well in the 2022 tournament...

2023:

Record: 82-80-0, 3rd place in NL_West

Pythagorean W-L: 92-70, 752 Runs, 648 Runs Allowed

With Soto for the entire 2023 season, SD scored 47 more runs but won ten fewer games than expected and did not qualify for the tournament. ...

So how much would Soto's lefty bat help the righty Yankee lineup that has only 2 of 9 with OPS+ greater than league average? Soto would make it 3 of 9. Worth $33,000,000? And prospects?

A broken bat was all San Diego deserved for relieving it of its bad decision making and over paying. Pay in millions and rounded:

No wonder San Diego needed payroll relief. Padres went looking for a sucker and found Brian Cashman, general manager of the New York Yankees since February, 1998. The Yankees have won the World Series once 2001-2023 in 2009. Fourteen years and counting for the next.

Aaron Judge will be 32 in April, 2024. Won 2022 MVP award.

Gerrit Cole turned 33 in November, 2023. Won 2023 Cy Young award.

3 Yankees = 40% of payroll in 2023. Does Hal Steinbrenner even know? Saturday, August 12, 2023

Payroll/Wins: Braves & Yankees. Yanks pay 96% more per win in 2023. Thursday, August 17, 2023
