Yankees: one championship in last 24 years. A fish rots from the head.

When will the fish stop rotting? Yanks are one for 24 ... and counting.

Most recent championships: 2000 & 2009.

Hal Steinbrenner, youngest of the Steinbrenner kids (four children of the late George Steinbrenner 1930-2010) has been running the New York Yankees for about a decade after his older brother Hank died. Hal inherited incumbent general manager Brian Cashman who had been promoted to GM in February 1998. That's in the previous millennium.

The problems are anything but new. And they are obvious. And documented here.

Yankees need to clean house. Friday, September 20, 2013

A fish rots from the head so the cleaning needs to start with the Steinbrenner Kids ...

I never thought that George was a bright guy, just one who was nuts enough to behave irrationally enough to distinguish him from his fellow team owners.

Cashman has two years remaining on his contract, so he will probably not be fired.

Field manager Aaron Boone should be a goner but current reports are that the team will pick up an option for Boone to manage again in 2025. Amazing.

Aaron Boone is very knowledgeable about baseball. But I have had one major criticism: the players make too many mistakes of all kinds. That was never more evident than in last night's humiliating elimination loss of the 2024 World Series, in which the Yankees blew a 5-0 lead and allowed 5 unearned runs in one inning.

Tommy Kahnle faced 3 batters in the 8th inning.

Balks: Luke Weaver (1).

Gerrit Cole is the ace of the pitching staff. He was betrayed in the 5th inning by fielding errors by his shortstop and center fielder that loaded the bases with no outs. Cole then heroically struck out the next two batters, Lux and Ohtani. Cole then got Betts to ground out to first base but ...

Cole failed to cover first base and Betts was credited with a single. The first Dodger run scored. Then:

Freeman singled in two runs.

T. Hernandez doubled in two runs.

5-5

What the heck?

The Yankees regained the lead in the 6th on a sac fly by Stanton. But in the 8th Kahnle entered and went single, single, walk and was replaced by Weaver who blew the lead.

It appeared that the Yankees would become the first WS team down 0-3 to come back and get to a game 6 but these Yankees dashed the hopes of their fans and lost at home in 5 games.

Somewhere the sun is shining ...
