Brian Cashman sucks despite conventional wisdom support in fangraphs.com, etc.

For the umpteenth time Yankee general manager Brian Cashman delayed getting the Yankees under the cap between the 2013 and 2014 by his ridiculous knee jerk signing of free agents Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran. Read the entire article at the link in the title below, then my comments that follow but remember that George Steinbrenner died July 13, 2010 after both his physical and mental health had been declining for years. In other words, it's at least eight years since Cashman had George as both a crutch and cattle prod.

How Brian Cashman Sold the Yankees’ Rebuild

The Yankees enjoyed a No. 2 ranking in Baseball America‘s recently released organizational talent rankings, after ranking 17, 18, and 18 in the three previous seasons, respectively. And the Yankees should have plenty of financial flexibility in the 2018-19 offseason, with a relatively paltry sum of $70 million in guaranteed salary on the books for ’19.

“It’s not the first time I’ve suggested that,” Cashman said of retooling. “It’s the first time ownership actually agreed to do it.” ...

Pinstripe Alley’s Harlan Spence has noted that some myth-busting ... Steinbrenner had been banned from operating the club from 1990 to -92... the Yankees did trade stars on expiring deals like, Rickey Henderson and Dave Winfield, and benefited from a rare top-10 draft pick that led to the selection of Derek Jeter...

En route to a fourth straight season of fewer than 90 wins, a season in which Cashman described his club as a “playoff pretender” when it fell to .500 in mid-summer, his conversations continued with ownership...

Chapman trade on July 25 — a return headlined by Gleyber Torres, who has emerged as one of the top shortstop prospects in the game ...

Perhaps the attendance decline shaped ownership’s decision, seeing that mediocrity was compelling fewer fans to travel to the stadium...

The Yankees are forecast to win 81 games by FanGraphs’ projections; in our staff predictions, the Yankees were the most common No. 2 Wild Card pick in the AL.

“We got derailed, but we honestly assessed where we were,” Cashman said of last season.

Yeah, you got derailed, Brian. You made a mess. Then you acted as if you had nothing to do with the mess. And Hal Steinbrenner bought it because Hal is too incompetent and lazy to fire your ass and put in the effort to find your replacement. That's the fundamental reason that the Yankees need new ownership.

George Steinbrenner is turning over in his grave ... again.

Yankees signed Tanaka for 2014, then passed on Lester, Scherzer, Price. Monday, February 27, 2017
Yankee general manager Brian Cashman is timid. And with good reason, given his record.

Steinbrenner petty vindictiveness rears its ugly head again: Dellin Betances arbitration. Saturday, February 18, 2017

For Yankee general manager Brian Cashman the beat goes on. Cashman is entering his 20th season as Yankee GM. How many people do you know who are good enough to be doing a responsible job for 20 years? Few, if any, right?
