The Yankees recently hit six home runs in one game against the visiting Cubs. I knew that the 1961 Yankees hit seven home runs in one game, so the wheels started turning.
HR: Mickey Mantle 2 (13, 1 off Gene Conley, 1st inn, 2 on, 1 out to Deep CF-RF, 1 off Mike Fornieles, 8th inn, 0 on, 2 outs to Deep CF-RF); Roger Maris 2 (11, 1 off Gene Conley, 3rd inn, 0 on, 1 out to Deep RF, 1 off Mike Fornieles, 8th inn, 2 on, 2 outs to Deep RF); Bill Skowron 2 (8, 1 off Gene Conley, 4th inn, 0 on, 0 outs to Deep LF Line, 1 off Dave Hillman, 6th inn, 0 on, 0 outs to Deep CF-RF); Yogi Berra (6, off Gene Conley, 6th inn, 0 on, 0 outs to Deep CF-RF).
Two each for Mantle, Maris and Skowron. One for Berra. There was a staged photo of the three "consoling" Yogi after the game.
So what was the Yankee record? What was the American League (AL) and National League (NL) record?

In the Regular Season, from 1901 to 2022, In the AL or NL, requiring Home Runs >= 6, sorted by greatest Home Runs.
Click that link and you'll see all 451 times a team has hit at least six home runs in a game. 31 times at least 8, including the Yankees. But twice teams have hit more than 8:

TEN is the record: Toronto Blue Jays 1987. Twelve years later the Reds hit NINE.
But in looking over the list I noticed that some teams had done it in a doubleheader game, which, of course, leads to the question: what is the team record for home runs in one day?
First I checked the teams that had hit 8 in a doubleheader game, looking at the other game. The 1939 Yankees had hit five in game two, so it was 8+5=13. Two other teams had hit four in the other game: 8+4=12. But to be sure, I pulled almost 1,800 records out of stathead.com for games with at least 5 home runs and put them into a DBMS (database management system). Only certain combinations could even match the 13 by the 1939 Yankees. For instance: 7+6=13. A team would need at least 7 in one game. It was apparent that none of those games of 8 home runs happened twice in the same doubleheader. In fact there were only 115 doubleheader games in which a team hit at least five home runs.
