Do not read the article. I read some then scanned through and eventually found an image of the alignment. It's boring and ridiculously long and there's not much that adds to simply looking at the image below. They wanted to induce fly balls. I'm told they expected the pitcher to cover first base on the few ground balls. The pitchers were going to lob the ball to home plate to get the flies.
In real life, maybe there's some of this shift that is practical and useful in MLB. Hey, if your team sucks, ...
