World Series hitting streak: 20 different players at least 10 games led by Hank Bauer's 17.

These streaks are for World Series only and they do not include other post season games.

For instance, Derek Jeter, who is doing a new TV car commercial to supplement his Yankee earnings of about $265,000,000 (more than a quarter of a BILLION dollars), played in seven World Series: 38 games, 165 AB, 50 Hits, .321 BA. Jeter's World Series hitting streak of 14 games was 1996-10-26 through 2000-10-26. That's the 6th and final game in 1996, all 4 games in 1998, all 4 games in 1999, all 5 games in 2000. 1+4+4+5=14.

In the 7 World Series games that Jeter played in 2001, he got one hit in games 3, 4, 5, 7. Game 4 October 31, 2001 was Jeter's after midnight Mr. November walk off:

HR: Derek Jeter (1, off Byung-Hyun Kim, 10th inn, 0 on, 2 outs to RF).

But it's not part of his 14 game World Series hitting streak.

His Yankees played (and won) World Series in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 during which Jeter had his streak. Jeter's other World Series were 2001, 2003 and 2009. The Yankees won in 2009, their most recent and possibly last such championship.

The old Marine Hank Bauer hit in 17 consecutive World Series games. Bauer played in nine World Series, all for the Yankees: 1949-1953 (all wins) and 1955-1958 (wins 1956, 1958). Like Yogi Berra, Bauer did not hit well in the first group but his Yankees won them all, so it was hardly noticed.

Bauer was 24 for 76 (.316) in those 17 games with 6 Home Runs, .605 SLG, .930 OPS.

1956 all 7 games against Brooklyn Dodgers
1957 all 7 games against Milwaukee Braves; lost WS
1958 first 3 games against Milwaukee Braves, each with HR

Bauer hit a 4th HR in 1958 in game 6, which was not part of the streak.

Cy Young award winners as best pitcher in MLB, not one for each league, which started in 1967:
1956: Don Newcombe (27-7), Brooklyn Dodgers
1957: Warren Spahn (21-11), Milwaukee Braves
1958: Bob Turley (21-7), New York Yankees

Don Newcombe pitched in three World Series, all against the Yankees: 1949, 1955, 1956. He pitched in five games, all starts: 0-4. In 1956 Newcombe started games 2 and 7 and was removed early in both. Bauer's hits in those 17 games:

1956:

1: 2 singles off winning pitcher Sal Maglie
2. single off Don Bessent in the 3rd
3. single off losing pitcher Roger Craig
4. HR: Hank Bauer (1, off Don Drysdale, 7th inn, 1 on, 2 outs to Deep LF); Yanks won
5. Don Larsen's perfect game for Yanks; Bauer single off losing pitcher Sal Maglie
6. 2 singles in 10 inning loss off winning pitcher Clem Labine
7. led off the game with a single off losing pitcher Newcombe

1957:

1. RBI double off losing pitcher Spahn putting Yanks up 1-0.
2. HR: Hank Bauer (1, off Lew Burdette, 3rd inn, 0 on, 0 outs to Deep LF Line). Tied 2-2. Burdette CG win.
3. 2 RBI single off Bob Trowbridge; Yanks up 9-3.
4. RBI triple off Spahn top 10th but Mathews hit 2 run HR bottom 10 to win.
5. 2 singles off Burdette (CG 1-0 shutout).
6. HR: Hank Bauer (2, off Ernie Johnson, 7th inn, 0 on, 1 out to Deep LF Line). Tied 2-2. Yanks win 3-2.
7. double off Burdette (CG 5-0 shutout).

1958:

1. HR: Hank Bauer (1, off Warren Spahn, 5th inn, 1 on, 1 out to Deep LF), Yanks up 3-2; led off game with single; picked off. Braves win 4-3 in 10.
2. HR: Hank Bauer (2, off Lew Burdette, 9th inn, 0 on, 0 outs to Deep LF); led off game with single, scored. Braves win 13-5.
3. HR: Hank Bauer (3, off Don McMahon, 7th inn, 1 on, 1 out to Deep LF). Yanks 4-0 final score. 2 singles. 4 RBI.
4. Batting 3rd 0 for 4. Spahn CG win 3-0.

The Yankees were down 3 games to 1 but came back to win the 1958 World Series. Hank Bauer got a single in game 5 and a single and home run (first inning off Spahn) in game 6. Hank Bauer never played in another World Series. In 1959 the Yankees finished third. Then:

December 11, 1959: Traded by the New York Yankees with Don LarsenNorm Siebern and Marv Throneberry to the Kansas City Athletics for Joe DeMaestriKent Hadley and Roger Maris.

1966 World Series
Baltimore Orioles over Los Angeles Dodgers (4-0)

Orioles Manager: Hank Bauer (97-63)

Anatomy of a trade: Roger Maris: KC Athletics to NY Yankees. Tuesday, July 7, 2015

Hank Bauer was traded for his replacement, Roger Maris. Wednesday, July 8, 2015

The only references to Bauer in the previous post were a footnote and as the principal in the 1957 Copacabana night club incident. I didn't want that to be all. The old Marine deserved better than that.

1957 World Series (4-3): Milwaukee Braves (95-59) over New York Yankees (98-56)

Milwaukee's only championship. Lew Burdette won three complete games: 4-2, 1-0, 5-0. In a battle of Hall of Fame southpaws Warren Spahn ... Whitey Ford ... Burdette ... stole the show.
